Galtres Lodge
Galtres Lodge is an independently owned hotel in the very centre of York. Small yet perfectly formed, the building was originally two Georgian townhouses, which have been combined to make this charming 12-bedroom hotel and restaurant. Step out of the doors onto the busy shopping street of Low Petergate, and turn the corner to see the magnificent York Minster, situated immediately behind the hotel.
We are exceptionally proud of our location, with Petergate being most visitors’ favourite part of York. Our neighbours include some unique boutiques in characterful buildings, specialist stores, and some of the best luxury brands in the UK. There are also numerous bars and eateries, none of which can compete with our own on-site restaurant, of course!
“The Shambles”, York’s oldest and most famous street is just a few steps away from the hotel: A popular place for visitors and tourists, this narrow, cobbled pathway is lined with beautiful Elizabethan buildings and was the inspiration for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter!
Galtres Lodge has been privately owned for many years, meaning that personal service and attention to detail are second to none. The hotel has recently been bought by new owners, and there are exciting plans afoot to make the hotel and restaurant even better. Pop in for a coffee and a chat at any time, we’d love to share our plans with you!
Now, let’s talk about parking... As we’ve already boasted, we are extremely central in this stunning historic city, and this does mean that we do not have on-site parking. The nearest car park is “Q-Park Shambles” which is a 5-minute walk away and our guests get a 25% discount. We will do all we can to help guests with access or parking, and we know all the best spots if the gallant driver wants to drop-off passengers before parking up, so please do contact us prior to arrival if you need any assistance in this area – we promise you, we’re worth the walk!

Non-Refundable Bed & Breakfast - Romantic Room Book
10% off our best available bed and breakfast rate when you pre-pay. This rate includes overnight accommodation, full English breakfast, wifi, and VAT. This non-refundable rate requires pre-payment. If you book on this rate and then cannot fulfil your stay we will not refund or transfer your payment, as such we recommend that you have travel insurance. Full pre-payment must be received in advance of your arrival or we reserve the right to revert your booking to the original price without the 10% discount.

Terms & Conditions
CHECK IN: We endeavour to have your rooms serviced and ready for you to check-in from 3pm on the day of your arrival. If you are due to arrive earlier, we will be pleased to store your luggage for you until your room is ready.
CHECK OUT: Please note that check-out is 10.30am. We will be happy to store your bags for the rest of the day after checking out.
NO SMOKING: Please note that we are a non-smoking property and there is £100 charge for guests who do not respect this request.
ROOM KEY: Please return your key to us on check-out. There is a £50 charge for a lost or un-returned key.
Payment Policy
DEPOSIT: Please note that we require card details to secure a reservation for our standard bed & breakfast rate. The full amount will be charged 7 days prior to arrival, at which point you are inside our cancellation policy. We take full pre-payment at the time of booking for our non-refundable rates. All deposits and pre-payments are non-refundable. Please note that if you have booked via a 3rd party channel, the deposit amount may vary.
PAYMENT: Payment of any outstanding balance is required on departure. We accept all major credit cards.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel your booking, please let us know as soon as possible to avoid any unnecessary cancellation charges. If you have booked our standard bed & breakfast rate, our cancellation policy is 7 days prior to arrival, which means that if you give us more than 7 days notice there will be no charges for your room(s).
If you cancel your stay within the 7 days prior to your arrival, you will be liable for the full cost of the stay. We will make every effort to re-sell your room for you, and if we are successful we may return your cancellation fee – however we cannot guarantee this.
If you have booked our non-refundable bed & breakfast rate, then you will be charged the full cost of the stay on booking, and we will not refund or transfer this in any circumstances. As such we recommend that you have travel insurance.
If you do not arrive for your reservation, we will consider you a “no show” and retain the full cost of your stay.
