Heartwood Mountain Sanctuary is a community hub and retreat center located on 200 acres in the heart of the Emerald Triangle in Humboldt County, CA. With a commitment to welcoming people of all backgrounds, Heartwood’s mission is to give visitors the opportunity to connect with the world around them and heal themselves from the inside out.

Accommodations include recently-remodeled eco-friendly inn rooms, suites, cabins and camping with mountain views. Our campus is located in a rural and rugged area, so a sense of adventure is necessary! The property is located a one hour drive from Highway 101 at 1500-1800 feet elevation.

Nestled in a grove of woods a short walk from the Main Lodge & Spa you will find the Bungalows. Our stand-alone eco cabins (cedar siding, bamboo floors, and birch furniture) offer a full size loft bed, desk, bookshelf, closet, and covered porch. The Bungalow Bathhouse is nearby with an outdoor private shower and double vanity sink. The toilets and laundry room are a two-minute walk down the road to the indoor Manzanita Bathhouse for both men and women. The Lodge, Sauna, and Hot Tub are a short walk uphill from here.

Sunrise is located near the Strawbale Meditation Temple on the upper campus. Each room provides a desk, lighting, outlets, bookcase, and alarm clock. A newly remodeled shared bathroom with two toilets, two sinks and two showers can be accessed in the center of the building. There is also a multi-functional classroom and meeting space in the building.

There are 25 campsites for you to choose from. We have Douglas Fir Woodland Campsites, Madrone Forest Campsites, Meadow Campsites and more.

We also allow you to camp in your vehicle on our property for the same rate. When you check in at the Welcome Center we will help you find the best spot suited to your needs. All campsites are located a short distance from shared toilets and showers, with minimal amenities onsite. Campers should bring all necessary camping equipment.

This eco remodel has 10 units that can be set for single or double occupancy plus a community kitchen/ lounge, one ADA bathroom, and close bath house.

Terms & Conditions

- We have a No Pet Policy for overnight guests. Please leave your furry friends at home when you visit our property. We will ask you to leave immediately if you bring your pet.
- Check-in time is 3:00 pm. We will be happy to check you in early if your room is available.
- Check out time is 12:00pm.
- The Welcome Center phone number is 707-923-5000. Arrangements will be made to process your check in before your arrival and your key will be left for you.
- Free Parking is available in our parking lot for all overnight guests.
- No Hourly Rates Available.
- WIFI is available for purchase from the Welcome Center.
- U.S. calls can be made from any of our phones, free of charge.
- For International calls, you will need to have a calling card.
- All rooms are "shared bath" except the two Madrone suites.
- All rooms are non-smoking. There will be a charge of $250 for smoking in the rooms. There are designated seasonal smoking areas available.
- We reserve the right to charge for any damage to or removal of items from the premises and/or unusual cleaning.
- Any items left behind will be stored in our Lost and Found bin at the Welcome Center. You will be responsible for returning to pick up your lost items. We will only hold them for a period of 30 days.
- There will be a $5 fee for lost keys.

Payment Policy

- Our rates are based on double occupancy.
- There are no additional taxes, fees or hidden surcharges.
- There is a 12% tax for overnight lodging and there is a 2% tax for camping. These taxes are already included in the rates.
- A valid id must be presented at time check is presented, along with the credit card used to reserve online.
- Cash may be accepted at the Welcome Center.

Cancellation Policy

We charge the first night of your stay if you cancel within 24 hours of arrival.
