Property Information
Castlemorris
Hen Ffermdy (Old Farmhouse) is a beautiful example of a traditional Pembrokeshire Farmhouse nestled on a south facing hillside in a sheltered valley just 2 miles from the north coast of Pembrokeshire.
The property was derelict from 1976 to 2019 when Sue and Adrian stripped the property back to its bare bones and have lovingly rebuilt it.
The oldest part of the farmhouse dates back to the 1530s with additions through to the 1860s. The house sits amongst the traditional stone built farm buildings and a large millpond on 5 acres of land previously used for pasture which has been left to go wild and nurture a fledgling woodland.
The house has super fast fibre wifi throughout and smart TVs. There is a library of books and board games. All rooms have individually controlled under floor heating powered by the ground source loops sitting at the bottom of the mill pond.
From barn owls to emperor dragonflies there is always something to spot out of the window or while walking around the footpaths in the slowly rewilding fields.
Sue and Adrian have spent the last 3 years breathing life back into Hen Ffermdy. They have not just rebuilt a derelict farmhouse but built a life in the country. They have planted their own woodland and now sincerely hope to welcome people that once upon a time could have been them looking for an escape from the stress and strain of a working life to breathe out and enjoy what time they have to spare.
Whether looking for insider knowledge of where and what to do in Pembrokeshire, especially their beloved north coast, or asking how you make the escape yourselves Sue and Adrian would be delighted to offer insight into their own journey. Alternatively, you can just relax in your own space and do your own thing.
Outside of the 5 acre grounds Llangloffan Fen is within walking distance which is a SSSI managed by the national trust. The beautiful twin beaches of Aber Mawr and Aber Bach are within a couple of miles from Hen Ffermdy, perfect for surfing or swimming. If feeling energetic there is a enchanting walk down to the beaches through a National Trust managed ancient woodland which is filled with bluebells and wild garlic in spring and offers much needed shade in the summer. One of the most stunning sections of all the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is nearby, it takes you from Aber Bach to Pwll Deri and then on to Strumble Head Lighthouse. There are seals to swim with in Summer, or birthing their pups in Autumn, birds to watch in any season, and the raw untouched beauty of the local coastline is breathtaking. For a place in the middle of nowhere Hen Ffermdy is 20 minutes from anywhere, notably Newgale, Solva, St Davids and Newport. The Sloop Inn and The Shed at Porthgain are 15 minutes drive and are firm local favourites.
