Memory & Company is now offering boutique, overnight respite service for people living with Memory Loss, and adults. With minimum stays as low as one night*, Care Partners can get respite for the night to do whatever else that is also important to them, including taking a break. Prices include full access to Club, Day Program, dining, activities, care, and medication management. *some conditions apply

Terms & Conditions

ELIGIBILITY
• Adults living with or without memory loss
• Must be able to integrate with the Day Program during the day
• Medically and behaviourally stable
• Be able to transfer with no more than one-person assisting
• Personal care needs can be met with one Support Team Member
• Swallowing and feeding needs can be managed safely with light support
• Must have a local emergency contact available for duration of stay

Please note there is no physician on-site. Guests will need to continue working with their family physician to manage their medical care while at our resort.

MANDATORY ASSESSMENT
Guests must attend a four (4) hour visit at least two (2) weeks prior to their first stay to ensure appropriateness in our environment. The assessment is free of charge.
Members, and returning Guests who have stayed within the past three (3) months, are exempt from this assessment, so long as there has been no significant change in health.

MEDICATION
Medications must be in their original prescription container or blister pack. The Guest’s name, prescribed drug, dose, route and dispensing time must be clearly marked on the packaging. If you are unsure, it is highly recommended to contact our Nurse to determine everything is in order.

We cannot administer over-the-counter drugs, supplements or vitamins without a prescription, as certain products can conflict with prescribed medication, or negatively affect our Guests. Please consult your Physician or Pharmacist to ensure the correct packaging and prescription.

Our preferred medication packaging is in blister pack form. Ask you Pharmacist for details.

Due to the nature of our environment, medication may not be kept in the private suites. All medication will be safely stored and administered by our Nurse. If you have any questions regarding medications, do not hesitate to reach out to our nurse before check-in day.

Please note there is no physician on-site. Guests will need to continue working with their family physician to manage their care while at our resort. In the event of a medical emergency, staff will call 9-1-1.

ILLNESS
WE ARE NOT A MEDICAL FACILITY. We do not accept anyone with a communicable illness, or showing signs and symptoms of illness such as fever, vomiting or diarrhea.

If a Guest becomes ill during their stay, requires medical assessment, sustains a serious injury or other health problem, their emergency contact will be notified immediately. If a Guest requires accompaniment to the hospital, a one-on-one hourly rate of $25, plus transportation costs, will be applied until their emergency contact can arrive.

If we become aware that a Guest is in need of medical attention by a physician, we will notify the emergency contact. The emergency contact will be requested to have the Guest seen by their own physician, or a local walk-in clinic, within 24 hours. If the emergency contact wishes, we can arrange an outside company to transport and stay with the Guest until they can be seen by the doctor at the expense of the Guest.

Please note that a Guest may be asked to leave the resort if their condition or behaviour puts themselves or others at risk. A refund will be issued for the remainder of the days booked, minus $50 cancellation fee, if days can be filled by alternate Guest. Otherwise, there will be no refund. Additional cancellation fees or no-refund policies may apply for booked outside services.

Please note that on rare occasions, for the safety of our Guests, we may need to cancel all bookings due to serious health issues such as the flu or outbreaks.

CHECKING IN
Care Partners are responsible for arranging transportation to and from Memory & Company. We are happy to offer a selection of options.

Check-in time is any time after 7 a.m. on arrival day, but no later than 3 p.m. unless informed ahead of time, and not a first-time visitor. This ensures our Guests the opportunity to become comfortable with our Day Program environment during the day, and settle in before the evening, especially important for first time visitors. Rooms will be available at 1 p.m.

Care Partners are responsible for ensuring all paperwork is complete and submitted, along with payment at time of check-in. The nurse will review medication to ensure proper dispensing. If you are unsure, it is highly recommended to speak with our nurse before check-in day.

CHECKING OUT
Check-out time is 10 a.m. A late check-out option can be pre-arranged which includes our Day Program and extends check-out time to 6 p.m. (See “Rates” section for more info.)

Because of the nature of the Respite Resort, it is essential that Guests depart on time. This allows housekeeping staff adequate time to prepare for the next Guest so their respite is not disrupted.

If for any reason the Care Partner (or designate as listed in the Service Agreement) is unable to pick-up the Guest at check-out time, the emergency contact person will be responsible for doing so.

SMOKING
Smoking is not permitted for those requiring a secure environment. If a Guest does not require a secure environment or accompaniment then Guests may smoke in a designated area outside.

ALCOHOL
Alcohol is discouraged. If a Guest requires alcohol during their stay, we will require a doctor’s note stating it is safe for them to consume alcohol. Alcohol will be stored in a secured place until requested by the Guest or otherwise stated by a physician. Guests must supply their own alcohol.

More than two (2) weeks prior to stay:
Full refund, minus $50 cancellation fee.

Less than two (2) weeks prior to stay:
Full refund, minus $50 cancellation fee if filled by alternate Guest for all days booked. No refund if room cannot be filled for all days booked.
