Property Information

Nenana Depot B&B
9073715588
900 A St.
Nenana Alaska 99760 United States

The Nenana Depot is one of the last remaining antique depots of the Alaska Railroad. It is the only remaining depot that is still largely original.

Built in 1923, this building was used as a freight and passenger terminal until the late 80's. It was the site of many historical happenings, such as the relay of diphtheria serum from the railroad to dog sled during the 1925 diphtheria outbreak in Nome, Alaska (the subject of the movie "Balto"). It is a two story building with passenger lobby (now gift shop) and freight house (now museum) on the first floor with station masters quarters (now bed and breakfast rooms) on the second. The second story was not original to the building but was added in 1927.

Guests will stay in one of three of the upper rooms. There is a shared bathroom and breakfast room featuring coffee, juices, teas, bagels and muffins with microwave and toaster. There are views of the Tanana river and railroad tracks to the North and downtown Nenana and Alaska mountain range to the South.

The railroad right of way is still an active freight and passenger line running 470 miles from Seward to Fairbanks. There are regular passenger trains in the morning and evening and regular freight trains in the night with the occasional fright/coal train during the day.

The Alaska Railroad is the only remaining flag stop railroad in North America. Arrangements can be made with the Alaska Railroad up to 24 hours prior to be picked up/dropped off at the Depot.

Any additional questions or information can be obtained from your host.

Animals ARE NOT ALLOWED in the rooms (with the exception of service animals) and additional charges/cleaning fees WILL be incuured upon violation of this policy. Similarly, missing towels, linens and/or other property will be added to your bill. We thank you for your understanding with these matters.

SAFETY: The Alaska Railroad is an active railroad. Please respect their right of way. Please do not park closer than 20 feet from the tracks and do not walk/trespass in the right of way.
