We are in St. John's most historic area and within walking distance to everywhere downtown, including coffee shops, craft beer and fabulous restaurants. Large rooms with ensuite washrooms, queen beds, cable TV, and wireless high speed Internet.

The Captain Ambrose Shea Book

Captain Ambrose Shea was the son of Margaret Rendell-Shea and George Shea. He served in the British and Canadian Armed forces and even has a CN ferry named after him! He also served as private secretary for two Lieutenant Governors. Captain Shea lived at the Rendell Shea Manor until his death in 1978.

The Captain Ambrose Shea is a cozy ground-floor room with a queen bed, ensuite washroom, and jacuzzi bathtub.

The Bannerman accommodates up to three (3) people with one queen and one single bed. The room is located on the main floor near the entrance and kitchen. There’s a large private washroom located on the second floor for this room only. Bathrobes provided.

Margaret Rendell was the first professionally-trained nurse in Newfoundland. Her father built our house, and she lived in it until her death in 1949. She married the first mayor of St. John’s (George Shea), and the name of our bed & breakfast comes from her new, hyphenated surname!

George Shea was the first mayor of St. John’s. He married Margaret Rendell (the first professionally-trained nurse in Newfoundland and daughter of this house’s original owner) and the Rendell Shea Manor is named after this married couple!

George Rendell was a prominent businessman from Devon, England. His daughter, Margaret Rendell, was the first professionally-trained nurse in Newfoundland, and he built the Rendell Shea Manor in 1879.

We are located in the historic East End. You couldn't find a better location to explore St. John's on foot!

Parking is very easy in this area. We provide an on-street parking pass for $10 per day.

STAIRS: This heritage home has stairs and your room may be on an upper level. If you are unable to climb stairs, please let us know.

No Smoking. No pets.

Payment Policy

CHECK-OUT: Please leave your key inside your room and sign your parking pass back in the book provided at entrance hallway. Parking Pass Reminder: Unreturned parking passes are $50.00.

Your room stay is processed within 24 hours of arrival and an electronic receipt/invoice is emailed to you prior to check out. Please ensure that we have your updated credit card information.

Cancellation Policy

If you must cancel your reservation, we require 30 days notice. We charge one night fee plus tax if cancelled within 30 days of arrival. Two night non-refundable deposit charged for stays of 5 nights or more.

Group Bookings (3 rooms or more) 2 night non-refundable deposit charged.(Group Bookings Only). Final payment is due 30 days prior to arrival.
