The Rendell Shea Manor

The Captain Ambrose Shea Reservar

Captain Ambrose Shea was the son of Margaret Rendell-Shea and George Shea. He served in the British and Canadian Armed forces and even has a CN ferry named after him! He also served as private secretary for two Lieutenant Governors. Captain Shea lived at the Rendell Shea Manor until his death in 1978.

The Captain Ambrose Shea is a cozy ground-floor room with a queen bed, ensuite washroom, and jacuzzi bathtub.

Bannerman Park - 2 Beds. External private bath located on 2nd floor Reservar

The Bannerman accommodates up to three (3) people with one queen and one single bed. The room is located on the main floor near the entrance and kitchen. There’s a large private washroom located on the second floor for this room only. Bathrobes provided.

Free Wi-Fi, free local calls. Complimentary tea, coffee, and continental breakfast snacks are provided in the sitting room and sunroom across the hall.

The Margaret Rendell Reservar

Margaret Rendell was the first professionally-trained nurse in Newfoundland. Her father built our house, and she lived in it until her death in 1949. She married the first mayor of St. John’s (George Shea), and the name of our bed & breakfast comes from her new, hyphenated surname!

The Margaret Rendell is a spacious second-floor room with its original ornate character, a queen four-post bed, original marble fireplace, large window, a single jacuzzi bath, sitting area, and period furnishings.

The Mayor Shea Reservar

George Shea was the first mayor of St. John’s. He married Margaret Rendell (the first professionally-trained nurse in Newfoundland and daughter of this house’s original owner) and the Rendell Shea Manor is named after this married couple!

The Mayor Shea is a spacious second-floor room has its original ornate character, an old-fashioned sleigh bed, original stone fireplace, a large window, a single jacuzzi bath, sitting area, and period furnishings.

The George Rendell-2 Beds Reservar

George Rendell was a prominent businessman from Devon, England. His daughter, Margaret Rendell, was the first professionally-trained nurse in Newfoundland, and he built the Rendell Shea Manor in 1879.

The George Rendell accommodates up to three (3) people with a queen bed plus a single bed.

The Signal Hill Reservar

The Signal Hill is a popular, bright room located on the harbour side of the house, old-fashioned queen sleigh bed, fireplace, three-piece ensuite washroom, sitting area, period furnishings, and a large window with a view.

Please note: this room is on the third floor of the house (two staircases).

The Bannerman Park room is a cozy room with a queen bed, fireplace, full ensuite washroom with tub and shower, sitting area, period furnishings, and large window.
